I got into anime just about the time it first hit American markets in translation.  I'd watched some on TV when I was younger, naturally, but starting around 1992-3 I got very involved in the new video releases that were coming out.  At one point, I owned every single version of every video released in the States for mass market consumption, something like 700 videos.  Like many anime fans, I started teaching myself Japanese and everything.  Unfortunately, I decided to go back to school and the money for new releases dried up, and since about 1997, I've been completely unable to keep up, and I sold off many of the titles I still had.  Of course, I still kept a significant selection, but only about 100-200 compared to the vast library I had had at one time.  And of course, like any true anime fan, I prefer the subtitled versions.

And don't forget why the Japanese do this so much better than we do -- Betty Boop freaked out Christian Fundamentalists.  That's why animation is only for little kids in this country.
