Electronic Teaching Portfolio

5-Year Goals

My goals over the next five years are primarily to gain additional experience and to acquire a more permanent full-time teaching position.

By the end of summer 2008, I will have been the primary instructor for at least 50 semester courses in mathematics at the college level and an additional 13 quarter courses, 4-1/2 years as a teaching/graduate assistant, 5 semester courses in computers, and a variety of other experience teaching test prep.  22 of these courses have been taught as either a hybrid course or entirely online.  I continue to work on improving my teaching abilities and expanding my repertoire of classes taught.

In addition to improving my ability to deal with large numbers of students, and improving the quality of my feedback to students, I would like to expand my ability to teach in terms of the breadth of topics.  I have been largely teaching developmental mathematics courses, though I have had some opportunity to expand into topics such as Trigonometry, and Applied Calculus.  Each time I teach a subject I find that I become better at the topic myself, and not only better able to teach it the next time, but also better able to use the material in other parts of my life and research.

Professionally, my goal is to obtain a permanent full-time teaching position at a community college or university.  As of this writing, I have been teaching in my present positions for more than two years now, over a year, and the third is a recent hire.  I enjoy my jobs, but a permanent position with benefits like health insurance matter to me.  I'm not as young as I once was, and hoping for the best with respect to my health just isn't going to fly forever.
